What We Believe - Essential BeliefsWe believe... in one God, Creator and Sustainer of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally co-existing in three persons — the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Deut 6:4; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14 We believe... the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, are the inspired, inerrant and trustworthy Word of God; the complete revelation of His will for the salvation of human beings and the final authority for all matters of faith and practice. 2 Timothy 3:16-1 7; 2 Peter 1:20-21 We believe... that human nature derives from two historical persons, male and female, created in God’s image. They were created perfect but they sinned, plunging themselves and all human beings into sin, guilt suffering and death. Genesis 1:26-27, 3:1-24; Romans 3:23, 5:12 We believe... that the substitutionary death of Jesus Christ and His bodily resurrection from the dead provide the only ground for our forgiveness and eternal salvation. That this free gift and finished work is available to all who place their trust in Christ and surrender their lives to Him. John 3:16-17; Ephesians 2:8-10 We believe... that water baptism (immersion) and the Lord’s Supper are divine ordinances of the new covenant, to be observed and practiced by the church in this present age. They serve as an identification with and a reminder of the death, burial, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 6:1-7; Acts 2:38-39; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26; Ads 20:7 We believe... that the Holy Spirit is the power that convicts, converts and changes us. He makes the presence of Jesus Christ real as He comforts, guides, convicts and enables us to live in ways that honor God. John 14:16-1 7, 16:7-11; 1 Corinthians 12:4-11; Galatians 5:22-23 We believe... in the unity of all believers and maintain that Jesus Christ is the sole head of the church. Each local congregation is free to decide and govern its own affairs. We are not the only Christians, but we are Christians only! Ephesians 4:4-6; John 17:20-21; Colossians 1:1 7-18 We believe... in the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ and the bodily resurrection of the dead; of the believer to everlasting life in Heaven with the Lord; of the unbeliever to everlasting punishment in Hell. John 14:1-3; Matthew 25:31-46; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 |
