The Pastor's Letter

August Memory Verse

Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.

Ephesians 3:20-21

I was wondering... FAQs

What makes this church different from every other brand of Christianity?

We believe that everything we need to know about God, about Jesus, about faith, about reconciling creation back to the Creator, about how to live life in the 1st century as well as the 21st century, is contained in the Bible. (II Timothy 3:16-17; II Peter 1:20-21)

We believe the Bible was written by man, inspired by God, and is understandable by us mere mortals. Therefore, the Bible is our sole guide and authority. We do not subscribe to supplemental man-made doctrine and we are not governed by external people or councils. The Londonderry Christian Church is considered a restoration church - an independent, autonomous, Bible-based church committed to the teachings of the Bible and making Londonderry a better place to live and raise your family.

We think we have a good thing going here. Of course, what we think won't matter a hill of beans in your decision to come back, but we still think it. This church is a family. We help each other out when there's something needing done, we eat together, we talk together, we play together, we eat together, we support each other, we encourage each other, we eat together. Each member is special and valued.

I know what I mean by worship, but what do you mean?

Our worship assemblies are purposefully designed to focus the attention of everyone who is there on Jesus, period. We offer an hour-long, multi-media, worship assembly. We sing hymns and upbeat contemporary songs; we have special music; we use a variety of instruments (a piano, a bass, guitar, the drums, and occasionally, even a violin). Music was created to make worship good, and we have a lot of it.

It occurs to us as we read about life of the 1st century church that they participated in communion each week. (Acts 2:42; 20:7) So, we do too. Scripture readings and corporate prayer are also part of each week's gathering.

Understanding God's truth is important to us, so yes, we do have sermons. The good news is that our sermons are in English, they are based on Scripture, and they are designed to help you enjoy life in the 21st century more than you already do. Some might think we are too restrained, others may think we are not restrained enough. We hope though that our worship assembly offers a sense of balance. If you want to express admiration for Jesus in ways that are natural for people in America in this generation, we think you'll be comfortable worshipping with us.

What does this church offer for my children and young people?

Many people assume church is boring or irrelevant to the needs of today's youth. We try and maintain a healthy balance between fun and serious. Our kids are not the church of the future--they are part of the church that's here and now! We offer a variety of classes and activities that we hope are convenient and believe are age appropriate.

Our current Sunday school program, which breaks for the summer months, includes the following classes: nursery (ages 0-2), toddlers (ages 2-5), elementary (grades K-5), middles school (grades 6-8), and high school (grades 9-12).

During our main worship service we offer a children's program called, Kids' Own Worship (KOW), that enables Kindergartners to 4th graders to worship and grow in ways designed especially for them.

In addition, we offer a youth program for middle school and high school students that meets on Sunday evenings. These weekly gatherings include game nights, overnighters, picnics, service projects, annual trips to camps and conferences; all designed to focus young people on Jesus and experience some positive peer pressure. We play and laugh and listen to music and hear what the Bible has to say, and it is all good.

You just want my money!

This seems to be a common sentiment that we want to eliminate from the start. We are keenly aware of the skepticism with which many people view churches regarding money. And we want you to know--up front--that we don't just want your money. We want you!

An offering is received each week, and if you choose to give, because you're grateful for what God has done for you, be assured your gift will be invested wisely and with accountability. And if you choose not to give, that's your prerogative. It really is up to you. No guilt, no pressure, no gimmicks!

How often do you meet together?

As a family, our church meets together each Sunday morning to learn about and honor Jesus. Then, during the week, we get together in smaller groups to socialize and help each other out. These groups are more specialized, more focused, to allow us to get stuff accomplished or find the support we need on a more personal level. They foster community and enable us to build authentic relationships.

We have all kinds of groups: small groups that meet in homes, women's groups, men's breakfasts, support groups, and task groups that oversee the function of the life of the congregation. God knows that it is not good for anyone to be alone. So we do things together, in groups. And we're glad we do. There's always room for more. If you want to make a difference in our world, jump in. There's still a whole bunch more we think God wants us to be doing, and as soon as He sends more people with talents in those areas, we'll make more groups, and we'll make the world a better place.

Will I fit in?

Many people find this church a comfortable place, a place to be planted ... a place to grow. We come in all shapes, sizes, and backgrounds. You'll find grandpas, widows, teens, young couples, moms, babies, students, and not-so-young couples to name just a few. We have people from different backgrounds and denominations; people with different interests and preferences. We have doctors, we have those that need doctors, we have Red Sox fans, and ... yes, we even have Yankee fans.

What do all these people have in common? What could bring this disparate group together? Jesus. Our overwhelming desire to study Him, to imitate Him, to reflect Him, to share Him. We think you'll discover that we accept everyone just the way they are. We don't care how much money you make, how big your house is, how well you dress, what kind of car you drive, or what baseball team you cheer for--we simply care about you.

I like what I see, how do I become part of this church?

Hang out with us. Study with us. Challenge us. (Yes! We mean it!) Grow with us. Together we will discover God's will for our lives. We have those new to the Christian faith you can grow with, and we have seasoned, mature, Christians that you can learn from. In addition, we offer a variety of workshops and electives on a rotating basis which will give you clarity and direction as you journey with us.

We believe we will be better by knowing you, and we hope you will be better by knowing us. As we grow together and in Christ, we can have a positive influence on our families, in our community, and yes, even the world. In the words of Margaret Mead, a noted anthropologist, "Never doubt that a small group of committed individuals can change the world. Indeed it is the only thing that ever has."
